Join us for a conversation with two of the filmmakers behind, “We Who Remain,” apart of this year's VR Showcase at AFI:DOCS Film Festival.
Co-produced by Nuba Reports and Emblematic Group, “We Who Remain” is the first character-driven virtual reality film shot in an active war zone. It brings you into the lives of four people in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan – a journalist, a student, a mother, and a rebel soldier – who struggle to persevere over the challenges of making their lives in unceasing war. It was produced in collaboration with NYT VR, AJ+ and Arte.
Ryan Boyette, the founder of Nuba Reports and a field producer for the film, will talk about what it was like to shoot VR in the remote Nuba Mountains as bombs fell and battles raged. Trevor Snapp, the program director for Nuba Reports and co-director for “We Who Remain,” will talk about trends in VR and the power of the medium to tell stories like this one. In addition, there will be opportunities to view the 15-minute VR film.
Nuba Reports is a pioneering journalism initiative that produces films and news from the front lines of Sudan’s conflict zones. Emblematic Group is one of the world’s foremost creators of immersive virtual, augmented, and mixed reality.
Refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be served.
